Young Mauritians rewarded for their success in sports and entrepreneurship

GIS – 09 December, 2019: A total of five young athletes received each a cash prize between Rs 123 000 to Rs 130 000, on Saturday 7 December 2019, during a symposium on Youth Entrepreneurship, held at the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development House in Phoenix. The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Stephan Toussaint, was present.

On the same occasion, some 50 beneficiaries were awarded certificates under the ‘Programme pour la Promotion de l’Entrepreneuriat Jeunesse’ (PPEJ) 2019 of the Conférence des ministres de la Jeunesse et des sports de la Francophonie (CONFEJES).

In his address, the Minister lauded the youth for their hard work in their respective fields adding that the cash prizes symbolically acknowledge their tremendous efforts. In a bid to boost the 50 young entrepreneurs, he reassured that Government will continue to support them in their endeavours.

 

Mr Toussaint commended the beneficiaries for their accomplishment which fosters responsible social behaviours and greater academic success. He further commended the excellent performance of young Mauritians during the Indian Ocean Island Games 2019 while highlighting the continuous support and logistics provided by the Ministry for the athletes.

CONFEJES and the PPEJ

It is recalled that the CONFEJES is an intergovernmental institution committed to promote youth development, advancement of sports and provision of recreation activities within the francophone region. It also seeks to foster friendship ties among young people from the region and promote regional cooperation as well as a sporting culture.

 

The objectives of the PPEJ are to namely: encourage the active participation of young people in the development process of their respective countries; and, promote entrepreneurship among young people and offer trainings.
