Villarreal boss Unai Emery says his team played an ‘almost perfect game’ in Champions League victory against Bayern Munich… but rues missed chances as he admits: ‘Next week we will find it more difficult’
Villareal manager Unai Emery was pleased with his side playing an ‘almost perfect game’ against Bayern Munich – but did note they could have earned a bigger first-leg lead.
Ex-Bournemouth player Arnaut Danjuma scored the only goal of a contest where the Spaniards had numerous chances to increase their lead against German heavyweights Bayern, and thought they had a second before VAR chalked it off.
Given Bayern’s excellent home record in Europe, Emery tempered expectations post-match, insisting next week will be ‘more difficult’ and couldn’t help but feel slightly short-changed.

Arnaut Danjuma scored the only goal of the game – but Villarreal had chances to score more
‘We are trying to compete and reach the semi finals, and we played an almost perfect game tonight,’ as per reports from Marca.
‘It would have been perfect if we had sealed a bigger advantage, we are not going to rejoice that we have won, as we could have done better at times.
‘We want to be demanding and go one step further. Next week we will find it more difficult.’
The Spaniards – who knocked out Juventus in the last-16 – impressed again on Wednesday
Bayern had not been beaten away from home in the Champions League since 2017 when an Emery-managed Paris Saint Germain saw them off.
But Emery got the better of them again as the team who knocked Juventus out in the last-16 continued their impressive displays in Europe.
The LaLiga side face Athletic Bilbao this weekend before travelling to the Allianz Arena for the second leg next week.
