Unai Emery says Arsenal can close the gap on Tottenham and solidify their top-four spot

Arsenal manager Unai Emery believes the north London derby represents a huge chance for his players to solidify their place in the top four.

Arsenal can move within one point of Tottenham if they beat their rivals at Wembley on Saturday.

Emery’s side have closed the gap on Tottenham from 10 points over the last two weeks after three straight Premier League wins.

While Emery knows Tottenham will represent a much tougher challenge than Bournemouth, Southampton and Huddersfield, he knows his players can cause more misery for Mauricio Pochettino.

‘Matches like tomorrow, the players know it’s important because we have a chance for three points to move in the table and it’s special for the supporters,’ said Emery.

‘We are speaking about the opportunity [on Saturday]. We were 10 points behind two weeks ago and tomorrow that could be one point and we are going to play together. It is a big opportunity for us to play with confidence in our moment.’

The Spaniard also dodged questions on whether Mesut Ozil will start against Spurs

Emery admitted that a fit Harry Kane can cause his side problems, adding that Tottenham having their star player available means they will have to do more to combat that specific threat.

Asked about whether he trusts one of Arsenal’s star players, Mesut Ozil, and whether he will play, Emery said: ‘For us, we are doing a plan for a lot of matches and also each match is different at home and away, depending on opposition. And that is most important and his desire to play.

‘He had injuries, his back and he was sick and we spoke. First I spoke with him, tell him when he can be consistent and be available for training. I want to watch every player playing all the matches.’
