Mauricio Pochettino is desperate to secure a return to Tottenham as  in talks over a sensational return to the north London club, according to reports.

Pochettino was sacked by Daniel Levy in 2019 after a five-year stint at the club that had seen them involved in two Premier League title races and reach the Champions League final.

He took charge at Paris Saint-Germain in January, replacing now-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, picking up his first major trophy as a manager after winning the Coupe de France.

However, he failed to secure the Ligue 1 title, with Lille securing the French championship on the final day of the season, and it is reported that the Argentine is unhappy with the inner workings of the French club.

According to the Athletic, the Argentine has held talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy over the possibility of a return and is keen on the idea of moving back to the UK capital.

A large part of Pochettino’s thinking is down to the lack of control he has at PSG – something his predecessor Tuchel also struggled with.

They also report that players are aware of the situation and are excited at the prospect of the 49-year-old’s return. Paddy Power have now stopped taking bets on him rejoining his old club

However, the French television channel TF1 insist that, while Pochettino has been ‘disappointed’ with some aspects of life in Paris, PSG have no intention of letting him go, meaning he must resign from his role at the Ligue 1 club.

Spurs have been without a head coach since April after parting company with Jose Mourinho.

Ryan Mason had stepped in on an interim basis to lead the squad through the final stages of the campaign, securing a place in the Europa Conference League on the final day of the Premier League season.

Levy has previously opened up about his decision to axe Pochettino, admitting that it was the worst decision he had ever made in football.

Spurs are currently attempting to persuade striker Harry Kane to remain at the football club.

The England striker has made noises about winning trophies in recent interviews, something he has so far failed to do with Spurs.

It is understood that the Tottenham hierarchy was furious with Kane’s recent public comments, but the return of Pochettino may go some way to repairing relationships between club and player.
