Tottenham ‘considering shock summer move for Aaron Ramsey’ as Juventus prepare to move on £400,000-per-week former Arsenal midfielder but ‘face competition from Liverpool and Everton’

  • Tottenham are among the clubs considering a summer move for Aaron Ramsey
  • Juventus are willing to move the midfielder and his £400,000-a-week wages on
  • Liverpool and Everton are also interested should Ramsey move back to England
  • Welshman joined Italian side in 2019 but has struggled for form and fitness there

Tottenham have reportedly enquired about the possibility of signing Aaron Ramsey from Juventus this summer.

The former Arsenal midfielder joined the Italian giants in 2019 but has struggled to make himself a permanent starter during his time in Turin.

Ramsey has made just 12 Serie A starts so far this season, and according to Tuttomercato, Tottenham are considering offering the Welshman a return to England in a move that would be a painful one for Arsenal fans, though face competition from Liverpool and Everton who are also interested.

The midfielder spent 11 years in north London with the Gunners, making over 250 appearances and scoring the winning goal in the 2014 FA Cup final to end Arsenal’s nine-year trophy drought.

The 30-year-old still has two years left to run on his contract, but his form and fitness has never reached a consistent level at Juventus and the club are keen to move the Welshman on.

Ramsey has scored just six goals in over 18 months for the club – he matched or bettered that figure in five of his last six seasons at Arsenal.

He has suffered 13 injury setbacks since signing for Juventus, and this has contributed to first Maurizio Sarri and now Andrea Pirlo both being unable to help Ramsey recapture his best form.

Financial issues are a key factor in Juventus’ willingness to listen to offers for Ramsey. The Old Lady made a loss of £99.07m in the first half of this season, a figure which has doubled compared to last season due to the impact of the pandemic.

This was despite their players agreeing to waive four months’ wages between March and June in 2020, a move which totalled £80m to help the club’s financial state amid the coronavirus crisis.

And Ramsey, who joined Juventus on a free transfer and earns in the region of an incredible £400,000-a-week in Italy, is likely to fall victim to that continuing need to cut costs, though would have to take a cut to those wage figures if he wanted to secure a move elsewhere.
