Toni Kroos fires back at Bernd Schuster after former Real Madrid boss called him a ‘diesel tractor’

Toni Kroos has fired back after being called a ‘diesel tractor’ by former Real Madrid manager Bernd Schuster. 

Kroos’ fellow countryman criticised his performance in the Copa del Rey second leg defeat to Barcelona at the Bernabeu. 

The midfielder acknowledged Schuster’s comments on Twitter by asking who the 59-year-old was.

The former West Germany international led Los Blancos to their 31st La Liga title and the Spanish Super Cup in the 2007/08 season, but stepped down as manager in December 2008 as a result of acrimonious disputes with the Spanish media.

After Real to a bitterly disappointing 3-0 defeat to their arch rivals on Wednesday night, Schuster lambasted the club’s current crop of players on El Transistor radio.

He said: ‘That midfield couldn’t even win against Girona’s. Kroos is now a diesel tractor.’

He was disappointed with the club’s decision to allow Cristiano Ronaldo to join Juventus

Schuster also suggested the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus has had a detrimental impact on Real Madrid’s season. 

‘Madrid are missing goals. They lost the best scorer in their history this season.’

Raphael Varane was also on the receiving end of Schuster’s damning words after the defender scored an own goal in the Clasico defeat. 

‘He’s a shadow of what he was, He was always badly positioned.’
