Tiger Woods has said he intends to take things ‘one step at a time’ as he continues a painful recovery following his car accident in February.
The 45-year-old had surgery on open fractures to his lower right leg and further injuries to his foot and ankle following a single-vehicle crash in Los Angeles.
Woods, who was found to be traveling at almost twice the legal speed limit when he crashed, returned to his home in Florida, where he has been undergoing extensive rehabilitation.

The 15-time major champion has revealed in an interview with Golf Digest, published on Thursday, how trying his recuperation is, but has commented on his hopes of playing golf again.
‘This has been an entirely different animal,’ Woods told Golf Digest. ‘I understand more of the rehab processes because of my past injuries, but this was more painful than anything I have ever experienced.’
Woods’ injuries left him with open fractures to his tibia and fibula bones in his right leg.
Following the accident, Woods underwent surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

He was transferred to Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles and then back to South Florida in mid-March to continue his rehab from home.
Woods has previously undergone five back operations, including spinal-fusion surgery in April 2017. Woods’ current rehab is focused on strengthening his right leg.
Woods also had five surgeries on his left knee beginning in 2008 and most recently an arthroscopic procedure to clear scar tissue in August 2019.
‘My physical therapy has been keeping me busy,’ he added. ‘I do my routines every day and am focused on my number one goal right now: walking on my own. Taking it one step at a time.’
Woods revealed the ‘incredible’ amount of goodwill messages he received from around the world has helped motivate his recovery.
‘It’s been incredible. I have had so much support from people both inside and outside of golf which means so much to me and has helped tremendously.’
It is unclear at this stage whether Woods will be able to regain full mobility and strength in his leg.

According to police, there wasn’t enough evidence to charge Woods, who didn’t undergo sobriety testing, but is not believed to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol in the early-morning crash.
Soon after the Masters, Woods posted a picture to his Instagram showing him smiling, on crutches and in a walking boot.
‘My course is coming along faster than I am,’ he wrote on Instagram. ‘But it’s nice to have a faithful rehab partner, man’s best friend.’
Woods has two dogs, a Border Collie-Springer Spaniel mix named Bugs, who was in the photo, as well as an Australian Shepherd named Lola.

The golfer smiled while wearing a leg support alongside Luna Perrone, 10, who is undergoing treatment for Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.
Luna captioned her Instagram post: ‘I got to have a quick chat with Tiger Woods this weekend when I bumped into him at the soccer fields!
‘He told me to “stay strong” which has always been my goal! Stay strong physically and mentally and inspire others to do the same! No matter what you are going through YOU GOT THIS!!!’
‘It’s funny because in that photo, the crutches definitely make my shoulders look big!’ he said. ‘Maybe it’s the workouts, too. It’s been nice having the ability to still stay strong and work out my upper body.’
Woods recently acknowledged longtime rival Phil Mickelson’s historic win at the PGA Championship calling it ‘inspirational’ in a congratulatory post.
‘Truly inspirational to see @PhilMickelson do it again at 50 years of age. Congrats!!!!!!!’ Woods tweeted.
‘Thank you. I’m pulling for your quick return,’ Mickelson tweeted in response.
