Three new cases out of 561 tests carried out in last 24 hours

These latest figures were communicated, this evening, by the spokesperson of the National Communication Committee on Covid-19, Dr Zouberr Joomaye, from the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation in Moka.

Current situation highlights:

·         Number of deaths stands at nine

·         One patient is admitted in the ICU

·         Number of treated patients has increased from 180 yesterday to 208 today

·         The number of active cases stands at 108

·         Some 259 people comprising passengers and medical staff are in the three Quarantine Centres

·         As regards the Treatment Centres, 25 patients are admitted at ENT Hospital, three in Pointe aux Piments, 13 are at Souillac Hospital and 67 in the three hotels in the north

·         10 894 tests have been conducted since the outbreak

·         A team is working on a contact tracing mobile application

Speaking about the evolution of the virus, Dr Joomaye stated that the graphic portrayal he shared, depicts a form of stabilisation after 9 April, with the number of active cases decreasing and more patients being successfully treated. As regards the projection of the World Health Organization which had predicted the number of cases to be greater than 1000 by week 7 in Mauritius, the spokesperson rejoiced that the measures taken before and at the beginning of the outbreak have contributed in improving the situation.

Dr Joomaye called on the population to remain vigilant and to continue taking sanitary measures, especially when ordering food through online platforms. He appealed to owners of such trades to provide protective equipment to their staff and to educate them about basic precautions to be taken.

He further reassured the population that Government is prepared in case a second wave of the Covid-19 hits Mauritius.
