Three families receive keys of their housing units at Le Morne

GIS – 06 August, 2019:  Three beneficiaries of the Social Register of Mauritius received last week, keys of their housing units under the Full Concrete Housing (FCH) Unit Scheme, during a ceremony organised at Le Morne on the premises of one of the housing units.

 

The Minister of Social Integration and Economic Empowerment, Mr Alain Wong, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Ashis Kumar Hoolass, and the Chief Executive Office of the National Empowerment Foundation (NEF), Mr Clive Auffray, and other personalities were present.

 

The FCH scheme is a joint collaboration of the NEF and the Ministry of Social Integration and Economic Empowerment.  The objectives are to provide decent housing units to eligible vulnerable families with a view to improve their lifestyle and enable them achieve progress.

 

The project, initiated in 2017, for the construction of 126 housing units island-wise, forms part of Government’s commitment to uplift the lives of those who are at the lower rung of the social ladder.

 

More than 115 housing units have already been completed and the remaining will be delivered by December 2019. The housing unit is of 50m2 surface and equipped with two bedrooms, a living/dining room, toilets, bathroom and kitchen.

 

It is to be noted that the applicant for housing support should be the owner of the land proposed for the construction of the house. Those families who have a plot on land on lease from Government are also eligible for housing support from NEF.
