Podcasters Open Goal have opened talks with Lowland League club Broomhill FC over a shock takeover.

Fronted by former Celtic and Dundee midfielder Si Ferry, sidekick Paul Slane and ex-Scotland striker Kevin Kyle, Open Goal has established a significant internet presence.

Interviewing big names from Scottish football, only Celtic and Rangers secure bigger numbers online in that sector.

Now, after hosting a number of sell-out shows at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Ferry is the frontrunner to take up his first role in management if talks over a buyout reach a successful conclusion.

Open Goal see Broomhill as the next stage of their project to drive up their audience numbers on social media platforms YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Sportsmail understands the podcasters plan to offer innovative fly-on-the-wall content from inside the club, while investing in players and infrastructure in a push for the senior leagues.

Sources insist talks are still in progress, with nothing finalised yet. Still a player with League One Peterhead, 34-year-old Ferry has been working his way through his coaching badges.

Currently languishing in 14th place in their 18-team division, Broomhill were elected to the Scottish Lowland Football League — the fifth tier of the SFA pyramid — in 2015.

Originally from Glasgow, they play home games at the Indodrill Stadium in Alloa.
