The ministry of Environment is implementing a project for the gradual replacement of filaos from the high water mark to 30 m inland over 200m at Flic en Flac , Le Morne and Belle Mare . Works have started at Flic en Flac and Le Morne. The filaos would be replaced by native trees which are more adapted to this zone. The plants would be enclosed and maintained for 2 years until they reach a height where the fencing can be removed. Filaos are exotic trees that are not adapted to the dynamic beach zone that is 30 m from high water mark. Access from the parking to the sea would be provided every 50m over the 200m.
