GIS – 14 February, 2019: The Emeritus Professor of International Law and Director of the Centre on Women’s Peace and Security at the London School of Economics (LSE), Prof. Christine Chinkin, called on the Attorney General, Minister of Justice, Human Rights and Institutional Reforms, Mr Maneesh Gobin, yesterday, at the Attorney General’s office in Port Louis.
Discussions during the meeting focused on the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, the Human Rights Council and international developments in the field of human rights.
Prof. Chinkin was accompanied by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the LSE Society Trust Fund, Mr John Chung, and a Board Member of the Trust Fund, Mrs Priscilla Balgobin-Bhoyrul. The Deputy Solicitor General, Mr Rajesh Ramloll, and the Senior Chief Executive of the Ministry of Justice, Human Rights and Institutional Reform, Mrs Asha Burrenchobay, were also present.
The Director of the Centre on Women’s Peace and Security is in Mauritius at the invitation of the Mauritius LSE Society Trust Fund. During her stay, she gave a lecture at the University of Mauritius and at the Institute of Judicial and Legal Studies of Mauritius.
Prof. Chinkin is a member of the Kosovo Human Rights Advisory Panel. She was also a scientific adviser to the Council of Europe for the elaboration of the Ad Hoc Committee for preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence.
