The Argentine will be considered a City legend after his last-minute winner secured their first league title since 1968 on the final day of his first season in England.
City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak revealed that Aguero is to be immortalised at the Etihad Stadium with the club working on a statue to commemorate his achievements.
Aguero will stand alongside statues of other club greats Vincent Kompany and David Silva, with the trio viewed as symbolising the strides took under Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini and Pep Guardiola over the past decade.
Aguero departs as a City all-time great after his last-gasp strike won them the Premier League
‘Sergio’s contribution to Manchester City over the last 10 years cannot be overstated,’ Al Mubarak said. ‘His legend will be indelibly etched into the memories of everyone who loves the club and maybe even in those who simply love football.
‘This is not yet the moment for farewell words and speeches. There is still much to achieve in the remainder of the time we have with Sergio, and we look forward to his contributions to the challenges which lay ahead.
‘In the meantime, it gives me great pleasure to announce that we will be commissioning an artist to create a statue of Sergio to live at the Etihad Stadium alongside the ones under construction for Vincent and David. And we look forward to the opportunity to bid Sergio a fitting farewell at the end of the season.’
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has been keen on landing Aguero on a free transfer in the summer, while the striker is also open to staying in the Premier League.
Having grown frustrated over his lack of match action, Aguero has held talks with City chiefs
Aguero has grown frustrated at his lack of minutes since battling back from knee and hamstring injuries, fearing his time at the club was fizzling out.
The 32-year-old has started just twice since October and has not scored a Premier League goal in more than a year.
City want a frontline replacement ahead of next season, with Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland their primary target and it is believed Pep Guardiola’s side are favourites to land the Norwegian.
