Seizure of 1.29 Kg of heroin worth Rs 19.3 million

GIS – 11 February, 2020: The Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA), on Saturday 08 February 2020, seized 1.29 kg of a powder, suspected to be heroin, from the false bottom of a luggage of a Ugandan. The market value of the suspected drugs is Rs. 19.35 million.

After landing from the Kenya Airways flight KQ 270, the Ugandan was leaving the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport through the Green Channel when she was intercepted by CANS officers after profiling.

 

The 30 year-old passenger stated that she is a marketing officer in Uganda and she will stay at a tourist residence in Pereybère. Her luggage was scanned and the images were suspicious.

 

The suspected drugs, the passenger and her belongings were handed over to the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) for controlled delivery, which led to the arrest of a 24 year-old Nigerian.
