GIS – 19 April, 2019: The winners of the third edition of the Heritage Short Film Competition were announced, yesterday, during an award ceremony held at the Serge Constantin Theatre in Vacoas. The competition organised in the context of the International Day for Monuments and Sites 2019, is an initiative of the National Heritage Fund (NHF) and the Mauritius Film Development Corporation which aims at creating awareness on historical sites in Mauritius.

Present on this occasion, the Chairman of the NHF, Mr V. Ramchurn, stated that the International Day for Monuments and Sites, provides an opportunity for each and every one to go back in time and reflect on the relevance of rural landscapes and cultural heritage, the challenges and benefits that encompass their conservation, and the correlation between rural landscapes and sustainable development. He added that it is vital to foster communication among the public and encourage them to preserve the richness of rural landscapes, cultures and traditions as well as various art forms.

The Heritage Short Film Competition, Mr V. Ramchurn recalled, has become an annual feature in the calendar of activities of the NHF and contributes to encouraging the youth to demonstrate their skills and talents, come up with innovative ideas and plots to represent the significance of cultural sites in short films. This involvement, he added, contributes to the country’s rich cultural heritage for the promotion and protection of the sites among the population.
