The VPM spoke about the immediate closing down of schools as from 19 March 2020 as the country registered its first positive case of Covid-19. This measure, she said, was crucial to ensure the protection of students and stressed that teaching was continued through alternative methods, namely online teaching.

She recalled that since then online classes have been broadcast on four channels of the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation, and various educational materials have been made accessible online. She expressed satisfaction as regards the contribution of educators who carried out their teaching sessions online.

Moreover, she underpinned the joint efforts of various institutions including the Mauritius Institute of Education, Mahatma Gandhi Institute, and teachers preparing for contents for online teaching and educators doing online teaching.

5000 educators benefited from trainings on online teaching, through two webinars, while 300 educators acted as facilitators in their respective institutions for the preparation of online lessons, indicated Minister Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun.
