Republic of Mauritius- Thirteen new cases of Covid-19 infection confirmed

Dr Joomaye, pointed out that Government is working actively on a well-structured plan with sanitary guidelines for the re-opening of supermarkets due on 1^st April 2020. He added that Government is also ensuring that the distribution of basic products to some 35 000 needy people who are on the Social Register of Mauritius is being done in proper conditions.

He called on the population to continue conforming to the curfew order and confinement measures prevailing in the country.

The Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Jagutpal, indicated that 51 cases have been detected though contact tracing which represents more than the number of imported cases. He made an appeal to the population, especially to the elderly persons to take all precautionary measures and to stay at home amid the outbreak of Covid-19 and urged the staff of old age homes to follow all sanitary measures with a view of protecting the elderly.

Dr Jagutpal also thanked all health personnel and encouraged them to keep up with their hardwork and not to be driven by stress and fear as they are on the frontline in fighting the pandemic.

As forthe Director of Health Services, Dr Vasantrao Gujadhur, he highlighted that the only way to stop the propagation of Covid-19 is to stay at home so as to break the transmission chain.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr K Jhugroo reassured the population that the Mauritius Police Force is committed to maintaining law and order in the country while adding that Police Officers are giving a helping hand in the delivery of cooking gas to citizens. People may contact the nearest Police Station in case of such concerns, he added.
