This initiative of the Home Economics Unit of the Ministry of Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare was organised in the context of the World Home Economics Day, observed annually on 21 March.
On this occasion, some 24 people were awarded prizes for their outstanding performances in the culinary competitions organised in several regions. Certificates were also awarded to trainees who have followed different courses provided by the Home Economics Unit.
Panel presentations were also conducted on the following topics: sustainable food choices, achievements of the sustainable development through creativity and innovation as well as sustainable lifestyle.
Home Economics Unit
The Home Economics Unit aims at promoting the social and economic empowerment of women and the community at large through capacity building programmes pertaining to the field of Home Economics. The Unit is in line with Government’s objective of promoting the socio-economic empowerment of the community and draws from a range of disciplines to achieve optimal and sustainable living for individuals, families and communities. The activities spearheaded by the Unit also provide a platform to discover and develop latent talents for the empowerment of women by reinforcing their capacities.
