Republic of Mauritius- Sales exhibition for women entrepreneurs

GIS – 22 May 2019: A sales exhibition, aiming to increase the visibility of locally manufactured products of Mauritian women entrepreneurs, was inaugurated today at the Port Louis Waterfront in the context of Mother’s Day 2019.

The four-day event, organised by the National Women Entrepreneur Council (NWEC), in collaboration with Landscope Mauritius, will be open to the public till Sunday 26 May 2019.

The sales exhibition is providing a platform for ten women entrepreneurs to showcase and sell products to local buyers as well as to visiting tourists. It has as objective to promote the know-how of women entrepreneurs and is offering the opportunity for these women to demonstrate their artistic creativity and increase the sales of their products.

A variety of products is displayed for sale comprising hand paintings, fancy jewelry, glass blowing products, basketry, key rings, embroidered towels, and skin care products.

The NWEC, a parastatal body operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare, was set up in 1999.  It is the main organisation that promotes the economic empowerment of women and encourages the development and growth of both potential and existing women entrepreneurs in Mauritius.
