Republic of Mauritius- Royal College Curepipe introduces Royal E-Card for cashless transactions at school

GIS – 28 June, 2019: A Royal E-Card, an innovative tool towards cashless transactions at school, including the software which has been designed and created by the Royal College Curepipe (RCC) students and teachers was launched, yesterday, at the RCC in Curepipe in presence of the Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Yogida Sawmynaden. 

In his address, Minister Sawmynaden, expressed his appreciation vis-à-vis the creation and concept of the Royal E-Card, which he said is in line with the philosophy of the Government to encouraging youths to adopt emerging technologies namely that of artificial intelligence. According to him, the current generation and future generations will be surrounded by automated devices and by robots all driven by Artificial Intelligence.

He further stated that in line with this endeavour, Mauritius needs its critical mass of innovators, creators and artists in order to thrive. On this score, he recalled that Government has also approved the setting up of an Artificial Intelligence Council in Mauritius with one of its main recommendations to introduce the teaching of such emerging technologies at secondary or even primary levels.

Minister Sawmynaden, also spoke of the vision of the Government to develop the knowledge and skills of the future generation of leaders in such a way as to best serve the interest of the country. He encouraged students and youths to embark on the path of technology and to opt for STEM subjects which are Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics while adding that the new upcoming jobs on the labour market will require STEM background.

On the same occasion, the RCC also held its Annual Prize Giving ceremony.
