GIS – 07 October, 2019: Residence Jacinthe, comprising 40 housing units of 20 duplex blocks, to the tune of some Rs 76 million, was inaugurated by the Minister of Housing and Lands, Mr Purmanund Jhugroo, on 04 October 2019 at 16e Mille. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Stephan Toussaint, and other personalities were present on the occasion.

Each housing unit is designed with a ground floor consisting of one bedroom, a living and dining room, a kitchen, a toilet and a bathroom complete with sanitary wares, fixtures and electrical fittings and an indoor staircase to access first floor where another bedroom is accommodated.

In his address, Minister Jhugroo emphasised that the construction of these units is part of an improved social housing policy through which Government wants to foster equality among the low-income groups and ensure a better quality of life of the vulnerable. Residence Jacinthe, he highlighted, will enable families to live in dignity and in a healthy environment. The families will also have access to many facilities such as children playgrounds, pétanque courts and parking spaces.

He underscored that the National Housing Development Company has established several criteria for the allocation and widening of housing units and for other related construction works. On this score, he encouraged the beneficiaries to respect these criteria, to properly upkeep their housing units and avail themselves of the facilities.
