Republic of Mauritius- Reopening of market places as from 31 May 2020

The decision was taken following
discussions between the Minister of Local Government and Disaster Risk
Management, Mr Anwar Husnoo, and key stakeholders held, this afternoon, at the Municipal
City Council of Port Louis.

A series of strict sanitary measures
were also enlisted in a communique released by the Ministry of Local Government
and Disaster Risk Management. The measures are:

·        
the
wearing of masks is mandatory for all vendors and clients;

·        
hand
sanitizers will be placed at the entry of market places;

·        
a
limited number of persons will be given access to the market for 30 minutes;

·        
no
child will be authorised to accompany their parents to the market;

·        
temperature of all persons will be taken prior to accessing
the market;

·        
all vendors will have to be well-equipped with gloves, masks
and sanitizers. Only one vendor will be allowed per stall;

·        
clients will not have the right to touch vegetables and
fruits before buying;and

·        
all
sellers of beverages and food stuffs will have to operate on take-away service. 

Officers
of Municipalities and District Councils in collaboration with Mauritius Police
Force and the Mauritius Fire Service and Rescue Service will ensure sanitary control at entry points of the markets.
It is recalled that these measures have been taken to ensure that activities at
the market places resume in best possible conditions and that all basic precautionary
measures are respected. 

Municipality
markets that will be opened as from 31 May 2020 are: Port-Louis Central Market
and Jinnah Market, andQuatre-Bornes, Beau-Bassin/ Rose-Hill, Curepipe and Vacoas
markets. 

District Council marketsinclude: Flacq Ti Bazar, Rivière
des Anguilles, L’escalier, Surinam, Souillac, Chemin Grenier, Mahebourg, Plaine
Magnien, Rose Belle, Goodlands, Rivière Du Rempart, Pamplemousses, Triolet,
Saint-Pierre, Quartier Millitaire and Montagne Blanche.
