GIS – 06 November, 2019: Remembrance Day will be commemorated on Sunday 10 November 2019 at the War Memorial, in Curepipe.  A wreath-laying ceremony will be held in front of the Memorial, which will be preceded by the observance of the two minutes’ silence from 11 h 00 to 11 h 02.

The ceremony aims at remembering those who gave their lives during the Great War.  It is recalled that November 11, 2019, also known as Armistice Day, will mark 101 years since the end of the First World War.  Remembrance Day in fact marks the anniversary of the Armistice which ended World War I.  The solemn day pays tribute to the heroism of the Unknown Soldiers who were engaged in the War.

The Acting President of the Republic and the Prime Minister will be present for the observance of the two minutes’ silence and will lay a wreath.  Wreaths will then be laid by the Chief Justice, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Leader of the Opposition, the Dean and Members of the Diplomatic Corps, the Mayor of the Municipality of Curepipe, the Representatives of the Mauritius Ex-Services Trust Fund, the Ex-Service Association of Mauritius, the Royal Pioneer Corps Association, the Union of War and Peace Ex-Servicemen, the Mauritius Red Cross Society and the National Council of St. John Ambulance.
