GIS – 06 February, 2019: Mauritius will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development with the main objective of establishing a Regional Centre of Excellence in the country. The Regional Centre of Excellence will serve as a hub for capacity building in the fisheries and aquaculture sector for Least Developed Countries(LDCs) in the African and Asian regions respectively.

The MoU will also allow policy makers from selected African and Asian LDCs to benefit from the successful experience of Mauritius in developing its fisheries sector and building the regulatory and institutional requirements for meeting international food safety standards.

Another objective is to foster an active exchange of experience, best practices and knowledge to better harness the development potential of the fisheries and aquaculture sector and enhance their expertise and knowledge with a view to strengthening domestic capacities in LDCs.
