Republic of Mauritius- Prime Minister’s Relief Fund Helping Rodrigues Island recover from damage caused by Gelena

The Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, aiming at providing financial
assistance to victims affected by cyclones and other calamities to repair their
damaged houses and improve related infrastructures, is now open to voluntary contributions
from the public.  The population is thus
invited to extend their support to the victims of Rodrigues Island which was
recently affected by cyclone Gelena.

 



The cyclone has left a trail of destruction including
damages to the island’s electrical grid, telecommunication network and
infrastructures, which resulted in 142 evacuees.



 



It is recalled that Government
has already disbursed Rs 35 million for repair works to be carried out in
Rodrigues.  Teams from the Central
Electricity Board and the Special Mobile Force have been deployed on the island
for reparation of the electricity grid and to undertake other emergency works.



 



Contributions can be issued by cheque to the
Prime Minister’s Relief Fund which is to be sent to the Cabinet Office, Prime Minister’s Office, New Treasury Building,
Port-Louis
.



 



Contributions can also be issued via bank
transfer on the following: Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, State Bank of Mauritius,
Savings Account No. 61031200000107​
