GIS – 25 June, 2019: A one-day workshop on Cyber Attack Preparedness & Response as part of the National Cybersecurity Drill is being held today at the Palms Hotel in Quatre Bornes. The objective is to assist organisations in building capacity and improving responses vis-à-vis cyber threats.

The event, which is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation and the National Computer Board, will enable to assess the preparedness of experts and professionals to respond to cyber threats and enable timely detection for mitigation and recovery of systems. A presentation was made to create awareness regarding the issue of cybersecurity among stakeholders.

The workshop also has as objectives to identify gaps in cyber security infrastructure; build capacity and improve the incident response capabilities of participants; gauge and improve preparedness in the identification, response, prevention and resolution of computer incidents; demonstrate how to evaluate the level of emergency preparedness in resisting and dealing with cyber security incidents; enhance communication and collaboration in the industry; and foster networks of cyber expertise and international cooperation.

Participants will also be familiarised with cyber drill which has become an important component in the cyber landscape today as it aims at preparing organisations on strategies to protect their connected infrastructures. A better knowledge of cyber drill will therefore increase participants’ understanding of the prevailing and upcoming threats as regards national IT system and infrastructure. The workshop will also enable stakeholders to identify risks and scenarios, share their experiences, and come up with possible solutions, as well as foster new networks.

It is recalled that ensuring national cybersecurity is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation. One of the recommendations include policy framework for Information Infrastructure Protection and Information Security Assurance in Mauritius. In the wake of the dynamic evolution of the cyberspace and its associated sophisticated threats, no responsible organisation can remain inactive with static strategies. Thus, the Ministry is engaged in providing capacity building programs and training so as to promote preparedness against cyber threats.
