GIS – 03 June, 2020: The Minister of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping, Mr Sudheer Maudhoo, met, this afternoon, with fishermen of various cooperative societies at the seat of the ministry in Port-Louis, to take cognizance of the difficulties encountered as regards purse seine fishing.
Many proposals were made during the meeting and new measures pertaining to purse seine fishing will be communicated at a later stage.
Among the proposals are: authorisation for fishing in high seas; revision of the length and diameter of the seine; registration of their fishing licenses and extension of the purse seine fishing season.
