Republic of Mauritius- Launching of International Gita Seminar

GIS – 14 February, 2019: The opening ceremony of the International Gita Seminar on the theme of “Bhagvad Gita- The Epitome of peace and harmony”, organised in the context of the International Gita Mahotsav, was held today at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre. The Acting President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Paramasivum Pillay Vyapoory, the Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Mr Tanmaya Lal, and several other personalities were present at the event.

In his address, the Acting President expressed his gratitude to the Government of India for choosing Mauritius as partner country to host the International Gita Mahotsav. He highlighted that the seminar will spread the human values contained in the Bhagvad Gita. According to him, the message in the Bhagvad Gita is a treasure to mankind which if righteously understood and acted upon, will act as an important tool to maintain peace and harmony across the world.

 

As for Minister Roopun, he observed that the International Gita Mahotsav, is being hosted for the first time outside India, while adding that it is a matter of great pride and honour for Mauritius. The event, he indicated, is evidence of the deep bonds that exist between the two countries. He underlined that Mauritius is the ideal country to host the event given that India and Mauritius share the same liberal values of democracy and culture, as well as the same values of tolerance, brotherhood and inclusiveness.

For his part, the High Commissioner Lal highlighted that it is important to hold such seminars to transmit the message of peace and harmony as preached by the Bhagvad Gita, which according to him, is a milestone in the philosophical history of the world.
