Republic of Mauritius- Inauguration of new National Identity Card Unit at Flacq

GIS – 26 September, 2019: The new National Identity Card Unit at the Customer Service Centre in Flacq is open to the public as from today, 26 September 2019. The inauguration of the new Unit at Flacq was held, yesterday, in presence of the Minister of Civil Service and Administrative Reforms, Mr Cyril Eddy Boissézon, the Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, and the Registrar of the Civil Status, Mr W.M Ayelou, and other personalities.

In his address, Minister Boissézon underlined that the new National Identity Card is the first-of-its-kind in the region of Flacq adding that it will facilitate the lives of some 8000 inhabitants for their administrative procedures and will be beneficial in terms of time-saving and efficiency. This project, he said, is in line with Government’s vision of providing efficient and essential high-quality services at the disposal of the residents.

He stressed the need for the Civil Service to continuously evolve, innovate and transform in order to respond to and anticipate the needs of its citizens especially at a time when the country is experiencing a technological evolution. He stated that enhancing the quality of life of citizens remains a topmost priority for the Government while stressing that the Customer Service Centre acts as a one stop-shop for several services.

For his part, Minister Roopun highlighted that the objective of setting up the new National Identity Card Unit is to promote further development in the region of Flacq and its neighbourhood. He spoke of various projects that are being undertaken to improve the daily lives of the population such as a new headquarter for the District Council of Flacq and a new Teaching Hospital, amongst others.

The New National Identity Card Unit has been set up in the building of the Customer Service Centre which was formerly the Fire Station of Flacq. Different services are also proposed namely: Civil Status Office; Ministry of Arts and Culture (CELPAC); District Council’s Planning and Health Department; Ministry of Gender, Child Development and Family Welfare; Citizen Advice Bureau; Central Water Authority; Treasury; Police Post; Probation Office; and, Village Council of Flacq.
