GIS – 15 July, 2019: A delegation led by the Ambassador of the Republic of France to Mauritius, Mr Emmanuel Cohet, comprising the outgoing Attaché de défense Capitaine de Frégate Laurent Servotte-Amouroux and the incoming Attaché de défense Capitaine de Corvette Stéphanie Riviere, met the Minister Mentor, Minister of Defence and Minister for Rodrigues, Sir Anerood Jugnauth, on 12 July 2019, at the Treasury Building in Port Louis.

In a statement, Ambassador Cohet highlighted Discussions focused on the first edition of a major bilateral exercise, Phoenix 2019, which will mark a high point in the cooperation between Mauritius and France. The meeting was also an opportunity to take stock of the positive and encouraging development of cooperation in different areas, including security, police, and defence. The two countries, he said, intend to develop the naval dimension, in terms of bilateral cooperation, which offers good prospects for work given the importance of regional maritime security.

It is to be recalled that in 2018, a defence framework agreement for bilateral cooperation and a Memorandum of Understanding dedicated to operational cooperation with a section on naval cooperation, a major component in terms of development prospects of support between France and Mauritius, were signed.
