Republic of Mauritius- Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award: Leaders and Assessors rewarded

A total of 281 Award Leaders received their certificates and red badges; 132 Award Assessors were handed over their certificates and green badges; and 96 out of these were qualified as both Award Leaders and Assessors. 

A total of 11 Trainings were held during 2018 and 2019 at Pointe Jerome Youth Training Centre.

 

The Award Leaders programme enables leaders assist and lead young participants during their journey. They learn about the different ways that recording and reporting of Award activities are done by using the Online Record Book.

 

As for the Award Assessors training, it helps assessors to plan, prepare and assess participants during the Adventurous Journey Section and the Gold Residential Project Section. They are also given training on Map Reading and Orienteering by officers from the Special Mobile Force.

 

The code of conduct and safeguard policy requirement are clearly defined for both Award Leaders and Assessors.  

 

Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award

 

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a global framework for non-formal education and learning, which challenges young people to dream high, celebrate their achievements and make a difference in the world. The Award enables young people to develop their skills, increase their fitness level, and cultivate a sense of adventure as well as volunteering in their community.

 

It operates in more than 130 countries and territories, helping to inspire millions of young people. There are currently more than a million of young people doing their Award around the world. The Award programme is being undertaken via youth-focused partners and operators including schools, youth organisations, examination boards and youth offender institutions that are in tune with the interests and challenges facing young people.

 

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Mauritius is open to young Mauritians aged between 14 to 24 years.  The Award concept has three levels, namely bronze, silver and gold and it provides a balanced and non-competitive programme of voluntary activities. With the completion of the Award, participants will achieve personally established goals, in the areas of Voluntary Service, Skills, Physical Recreation, Adventurous Journey and Gold Residential Project.
