GIS – 25 March, 2019:  Drugs worth Rs 16 million, was intercepted at the SSR International Airport on a man of Togolese nationality on 19 March 2019. The suspicious demeanour of this passenger in the green channel of the SSR Airport led the officers of the Mauritius Revenue Authority Customs Anti-Narcotics Section to intercept him.

The 60-year-old passenger was travelling on the Emirates flight EK 701 from Dubai and, upon scan and examination, nothing incriminating was found from his luggage. A body search on the Togolese also yielded negative result.

After intense interrogation, he revealed that he had swallowed 64 pellets of drugs suspected to be heroin and that a local contact would meet him in the hotel to collect the purged drugs.

The Togolese was handed over to the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit for further investigation and medical examination. Eventually the former purged 64 pellets and is under arrest. A Beninese, who arrived in Mauritius on Monday 11 March 2019, was also arrested during the control delivery operation.
