Republic of Mauritius- Colonel Gennady Padalka discusses space exploration with Prime Minister Jugnauth

GIS – 11 July, 2019: Colonel Gennady Padalka, Crew Member of One More Orbit, paid a courtesy call, today, on the Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.

In a statement, Colonel Gennady Padalka expressed satisfaction regarding the fruitful meeting he had with Prime Minister Jugnauth which focused on space exploration and his mission of One More Orbit.

One More Orbit, he pointed out, is a multinational attempt to break the world record for the fastest circumnavigation by flying around the world over both poles over an approximately 48-hour mission, in a Qatar Executive Gulfstream G650ER ultra long-range business jet.

He further added that this record is being attempted in the context of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the moon landing of Apollo 11, as a tribute to the past, present, and future of space explorations.

 

Colonel Gennady Padalka is a Russian International Space Station commander and Mir and Soyuz cosmonaut. He currently has the world record for the most cumulative time spent in space, that is, 879 days.
