GIS – 27 September, 2019: The construction of a Multi-Sports Complex fits in the Central Electricity Board’s (CEB) vision of enhancing the health and quality of life of its employees. The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy and Public Utilities, Mr Ivan Collendavelloo, made this statement, yesterday, at the laying of foundation stone ceremony of the CEB Multi-Sports Complex at Côte d’Or.

In his address, the Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that in this modern era, it is important for the Mauritian population to embrace a sports culture to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The new Complex, with state-of-the-art facilities, will provide the opportunity for the executives, employees and pensioners of the CEB as well as those of the subsidiary companies to practice any sports of their choice, he underscored.

Furthermore, Mr Collendavelloo highlighted that the Multi-Sports Complex will be equipped with a cafeteria which can also be used to host conferences.  He thus urged the employees to make optimum use of the various facilities that will be available once the Complex is completed.

Speaking of the energy industry in Mauritius, Mr Collendavelloo stated that during its 67 years of existence, the CEB has had a good coverage of about 99.5% of the national network, with 70 000 consumers who are at the bottom at the social ladder benefitting from preferential tariffs. Some 10 000 solar kits, free of cost for the first five years, will also be installed on the roofs of the homes of those at the bottom of the ladder under the Home Solar Project Scheme, he said.

For his part, the Acting General Manager of the CEB, Mr Shamshir Mukoon, indicated that the Multi-Sports Complex project, which will promote and develop the sports sector in the CEB, is a joint collaboration between the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities and the CEB.

This infrastructure, Mr Mukoon said, is a legacy to the employees of the CEB and the future employees.  He also reiterated CEB’s commitment in supporting its employees in taking care of their health and in promoting leisure activities for enhanced team spirit and productivity.
