Real Madrid’s Bernabeu stadium on FIRE as Spanish giants see £500m redevelopment work jeopardised

Real Madrid‘s Bernabeu Stadium appears to have caught fire on Wednesday night, with firefighters being called to the scene.   

The iconic stadium in the heart of the Spanish capital has been home to the LaLiga side since 1947 and is currently undergoing construction work. 

The cause of the fire is unknown but plumes of thick black smoke have been seen above the stadium.

Flames could be seen burning inside one of the columns of the stadium as emergency vehicles rushed to the scene.  

Although the extend of the damage is set to be determined, fans fear the fire could jeopardise the £50million renovations currently under way.
