Oxford united have taken to Twitter to mock top-flight kit announcements with their #putasockinit video campaign.

With the start of a new season is drawing near Premier League clubs have been showing off their new kit in elaborate ways, causing Oxford fans to question when their new strip would be revealed.

Responding to the fans, Oxford created a comedic video that mimics a real kit launch, enticing them in, before announcing the pre-order of the ‘official home sock’ for the 2020-21 season.

The gags start with the Oxford United desktop consisting of folders named: ‘New signings TOP SECRET’, ‘Gifs & Memes’, ‘Rosie’s Expenses’ and ‘Admin’s contact negotiations’. 

The screen is then flooded with Twitter appeals from fans asking the club to release next seasons kit.

With a countdown from starting from 10, it was all too good to be true as Oxford United took the opportunity to mock elaborate kit announcements by giving fans an in depth look at just one sock. 

The witty video was finished off with hashtag ‘put a sock in it’ before telling fans the official home sock for the 2020-21 season is available for pre-order. 

The video is in response to new kits being released around Europe. West Ham and Southampton have shown off their new strips, while other teams shirts have been leaked on social media.
