Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits he DID consider dropping under fire goalkeeper David de Gea

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backed out-of-form goalkeeper David Dea to come good for Manchester United ahead of their crucial Premier League clash against West Ham. 

Dea Gea, 29, has made several high-profile blunders in recent games, including two mistakes as his side lost to Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final.

 Yet Solskjaer, whose side are fifth on goal difference with two games to play in their race for the Champions League, hailed De Gea but also warned that he considered his choices before each game.

Solskjaer said: ‘You talk about everything before any game, but David has proven himself over many years.

‘Form might be temporary but class is permanent and he is an absolutely top keeper.

‘He has dealt with these situations for nine seasons now so he’s fine.’

The Manchester United goalkeeper has been criticised after several mistakes this season

Patrice Evra also leapt to the defence of his former team-mate and insisted he still had plenty to offer at the highest level.

He said: ‘Of course he is the best goalkeeper. I am a little bit sad about the criticism, he he deserves a little but not it all. 

‘To say he is the most overrated keeper is a little bit harsh.’
