We had a quick catch-up with our student co-ordinator in Mauritius! Check out what he had to say about Conserving Biodiversity in Mauritius 🇲🇺🤗
1.Tell us about Conserving Biodiversity in Mauritius and your role at the company.
This is a volunteer project which focuses on both land based and marine based conservation projects, of which reforestation of endemic forests lies at the heart.
2. What makes this project unique?
I would say there are a couple of things which makes it unique, one being the fact that volunteers can be involved in both terrestrial (land based) and marine projects during their stay. You can find yourself removing alien vegetation in the jungle on the mountain one day, and then swimming with turtles the next. Secondly, our location itself is pretty tough to beat. We are situated high on the hills with an ocean view second to none and surrounded by beautiful rivers, forests and bird life.
3. What should every volunteer considering to volunteer in Mauritius know?
That it would be a very worthwhile experience, where you will be exposed to so much more than just reforestation. All I would say is bring sunscreen, bug spray and an open mind. You might just find you will never want to leave.
