Mauritius defeats Madagascar in preliminary rounds of Badminton

GIS – 20 July, 2019: Mauritius defeated Madagascar in the preliminary rounds of Badminton with a winning score of 5-0 for both men and women categories. The matches were played in full fervour this morning at Centre National de Badminton in Rose-Hill.

With regard to the matches played between Reunion Island and Maldives, Reunion Island defeated Maldives with a score of 5-0 (men) and 4-1 (women).

 

Later this evening, after all matches have been played, the teams selected for the semi-finals to be held on Monday 22 July 2019 will be announced.

 

For this sport, introduced in the Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOIG) in 1979, generally seven finals are played, namely men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, mixed doubles, and men’s team and women’s team tournaments. It is recalled that in the 9th edition of the IOIG in 2015, Mauritius bagged 7 gold medals in Badminton.

As at now, Reunion Island is leading the Games with a total of 10 medals while Mauritius ranks second with 9 medals.
