Mauritius bags three Gold Medals in Judo

GIS – 23 July, 2019: Mauritian athletes in the Judo competition for the 10th edition of the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) have outshined, yesterday, at Côte D’Or national sports complex with a total of three Gold medals comprising two for Judo (women) competition and 1 Judo (men) competition.

 

The gold medalists in the different categories are as follows: Priscilla Morand (-48 kg); Christiane Legentil (-52 kg); and Louis Begué Daniel (-66 kg).

It will be recalled that six Mauritian athletes were qualified for the finals yesterday after the play-off games held earlier during the day. The competition will carry on today with Mauritian athletes participating in the play-off games in several categories followed by the finals in late afternoon.

Judo competition is present in the IOIG for the ninth time. Seven categories are competing in this discipline for men and women respectively; men (-48 kg, -52 kg, -57 kg, -63 kg, -70 kg, -78 kg, +78 kg) and women (-60 kg, -66 kg, -73 kg, -81 kg, -90 kg, -100 kg and +100 kg).

At the last IOIG held in 2015, Mauritius won four gold medals.
