GIS – 20 July, 2019: Mauritius men’s Beach Volley teams won their first game against Comoros in the preliminary stage, this afternoon, at the Mont Choisy Beach Volley Arena, in Mont Choisy. In the first game, Mauritian Beach Volley Team B (Eric/Evans), opposed to Comoros Beach Volley Team A (Abdoulkarim/Kassim), won by two sets to nil. The first set ended on the score of 22 – 20 and the second on 21 – 12 in favour of Mauritius.
With regard to the second game, the Mauritian pair Gilbert/Doobraz (Team A) also sealed the victory, 21 – 16, in two sets against the Comoros team Ahmed/Bakari (Team B) in front of enthusiastic supporters gathered at the Arena. After the matches, both Mauritian teams expressed their satisfaction and hope to build on this momentum for the rest of the competition. They also thanked the public present for their support and fervour.
For their next matches, the Mauritian teams will face Maldives and Seychelles respectively on 21 July 2019. It is recalled that beach volley has been introduced in the Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOIG) for the first time this year.
