  • Vettori insisted that Holland’s constant trash talk won’t affect his tactics

Martin Vettori has vowed to ‘break’ Kevin Holland during their main event showdown at UFC Fight Night this weekend.

The Italian fighter was set to fight Darren Till, but the Brit pulled out of the middleweight clash due to a collarbone injury he picked up during training.

And despite a late change in opponent, ‘The Italian Dream’ remains confident that he can win in Las Vegas

‘I don’t underestimate him. I don’t rate him as elite, because I don’t think he has elite skills’, Vettori told Sky Sports.

‘But I don’t underestimate him because he’s a wild guy. And wild guys should be treated the right way because they can be very dangerous.

‘He is still to be respected.

‘I’ll approach him with my style. And my style is relentless pressure, good defence. It’s hard to deal with. None of the skills he has are going to be enough.

‘I match up very well with him. But he’s still to be respected.

‘[I’ll bring] relentless and pressure. And I’m really looking forward to breaking this guy. I want to see him quit in the cage.’

Holland has a reputation in the UFC for trash-talking in the octagon during fights, but Vettori does not seem fazed by the American’s tactics.

‘To be honest, I don’t think he’s going to talk that much in my fight,’ he explained.

‘I’ll do my stuff. If he wants to talk, and he thinks talking can help him in the fight, go and do that. He’ll do whatever he thinks will help him in the fight. And I’ll do whatever I think will help me in the fight.

‘I think talking is not the best idea for him. But he can do it if you think it will help you so it. The most important thing is I have particular skills, and that will win fights, not the talking.’
