Manchester United legend Laurent Blanc had talks to become manager at Old Trafford

Manchester United legend Laurent Blanc has revealed how close he came to becoming manager at Old Trafford.

The former defender has admitted he was eyed up by the powers that be within the club, following the doomed reign of David Moyes.

Moyes was hand-picked by Sir Alex Ferguson to lead the club into a new era, but a miserable run of form from the off saw him swiftly dismissed from the post.

Blanc was identified by United, though has revealed his then commitments with French giants Paris Saint Germain made things difficult.

‘I had a call from a director, I’d prefer not to say who, and some discussion,’ Blanc told The Times during a recent interview.

‘But I was in Paris so it was very difficult for me to leave. We kept in touch but they went with Van Gaal in the end.’

Currently out of management, Blanc has ambitions to return to the game and make a a name for himself in England. 

‘Managing in England is a big ambition. I have big experience at Paris,’ he added.

‘It’s difficult for me to go to another club in France. I want a different challenge in England, Spain or Italy. 

‘I played in those countries, I know them, so I keep going to games and I see what calls come in.’
