For the first few months of the season, it looked as though Manchester United‘s season would be a wash-out – but now, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, they are racing towards the top four like a tsunami.

Under their interim manager, United have won eight and drawn one of their last nine games, and are targeting another victory at Fulham on Saturday lunchtime.

On Friday morning, the players arrived for training and final preparations at the club’s Carrington training ground in what could be charitably described as damp conditions.

Alexis Sanchez made the biggest splash as he arrived in his Bentley, driving through a big pull and causing an impressive displacement of water for the cameras.

Paul Pogba was also spotted being driven into training, speaking on his mobile phone as he rode in the front passenger seat.

Among the other stars spotted were Scott McTominay, Luke Shaw, and Swedish centre back Victor Lindelof, who had a large number of cardboard boxes piled up in the back of his Range Rover.

United will be hoping to pack up and take three points back with them from Craven Cottage on Saturday as they aim for a ninth win out of ten under Solskjaer.

Win, and United will move into the top four, putting the onus on current fourth placed side Chelsea, who have to travel to league leaders Manchester City on Sunday.

Their form is proof of the impressive impact Solskjaer has had on the side, which has seen the interim coach – in charge until the end of the season after replacing Jose Mourinho – installed as bookies’ favourite for the full time role.

Indeed Solskjaer said at his Friday press conference that he is helping to shape United’s team for coming seasons, despite having no guarantees that he will be at the club beyond this campaign.

Solskjaer said: ‘Every day I feel that I do help the club, do put a little bit of my stamp on it, but sometimes decisions of players’ futures, they are not down to me either.

‘It’s the players. Do they want to stay? Do they want to move on? Do they want something else?

‘We have a vision and a picture of how we want to look in a few years – and, of course, we have to think long term but also short term.

‘So, I’ve got a picture of how I think this Man United team will look in a couple of years. I don’t know if it’s with me, but I always put my views across to Ed and the ones in the club.’
