A 27-year-old man has been arrested after a football fan was left with a life-changing injury to his face during brawls between Millwall and Everton supporters.

Police called the scenes ‘absolutely shocking’ as fighting broke out between groups of fans before and after an FA Cup clash on January 26.

The injured Everton supporter posted a picture on social media showing a long scar down the right side of his face.

Detective Sergeant Matt Simpson, from the Metropolitan Police Public Order Investigation Team, said: ‘The disorder which we witnessed was absolutely shocking. It involved dozens of people and lasted for a number of hours.

‘We are carrying out a large-scale investigation into the disorder, which left at least one person with a serious injury.

‘We have hours of CCTV and hundreds of images which we are closely reviewing, and we have a team of experts working to identify those involved.’

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of wounding with intent, attempted grievous bodily harm, and violent disorder and bailed until February 28.
