M is for Mauritius Fody.

The Mauritius Fody is a striking bird.
Breeding males are olive brown with a red head, breast and rump patch and black lores. While females, non-breeding males and juveniles are olive brown with white wing bars and a brown bill.
It is extremely rare and only occurs in the native forest of Mauritius, an island nation off the coast of Africa.
The Mauritius Fody is a weaver, the male and female cooperating to weave each nest, from material like grass, moss and small twigs.
The population underwent a rapid decline in the past few decades and is currently very small.
The Mauritius Fody’s main threats include the destruction of native forest and nest predation by introduced species.
