Liverpool‘s players were pictured back at their Melwood training base on Thursday morning as they wait to be crowned Premier League champions.

Jurgen Klopp’s side strolled to victory against Crystal Palace at Anfield on Wednesday night, beating the Eagles 4-0 to move to the brink of a first league title in 30 years.

The Reds now know they will be crowned champions if Manchester City fail to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.

But Klopp’s players looked in relatively relaxed mood as they went through a series of exercises to recover from their comfortable win.

Andy Robertson was pictured being put through his paces on an exercise bike in the new gym that has been created to allow players to safely work-out and adhere to the government’s guidelines.

Fellow defender Joe Gomez was also working out, stretching his hamstrings on an intricate piece of equipment.

Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk and Roberto Firmino were snapped on their phones, quickly taking a break from the gruelling conditions on Merseyside.

The players now have a week off until they travel to play City. It was confirmed on Thursday the game will be played at the Etihad Stadium after safety fears meant a neutral venue had been considered.

Liverpool’s stars deserve some time to recover as they chalked up their 28th win from 31 matches this season against Palace.

Trent Alexander Arnold opened the scoring with a sensational free-kick before goals from Mohamed Salah, Fabinho and Sadio Mane completed the scoring.

Such was their dominance that they stopped Palace from having a touch inside their area – the first time that has happened to a Premier League side since Opta stats were introduced in 2008.

Klopp was delighted with his side’s performance, saying: ‘You should not underestimate how much this team wants it.

‘This team really wants it. They want to fulfil the wishes of the people at home, really. We all have a common dream but we have to work for it. We have to work our way for it.

‘We can’t play like other teams but we can play pretty good stuff. That is what the boys did. When we spoke after the game, we spoke about the clean sheet. Usually when that happens, Alisson is massively involved. On this occasion, that was not the case.

‘The game was exceptional. From talking about football, it was exceptional from so many points of view. It is so difficult against a 4-5-1 but how we pushed them back! The free-kick of Trent? Exceptional. The second goal? Wonderful pass from Fabinho, sensational finish by Mo.

‘The third goal was then Fabinho… yes! He scored already against Man City like that, he showed he can do it. But then we score the fourth goal. What a pass from Mo! Sadio finishes the move off, exceptional. There were so, so many good things about it even when we did not score.’

City travel to Stamford Bridge knowing only three points will be good enough to extend the title race. However, Pep Guardiola vowed to rest some of his key players as they look towards an FA Cup quarter-final against Newcastle this weekend.
