The Dutchman is seeking a reunion with the midfielder after working at international level
The midfielder is entering the final 12 months of his contract with the Reds and talks over an extension have not taken place.
Barca would need to free up funds to make an offer for the Dutchman this summer as the club are still struggling financially because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Koeman has always got the best out of Wijnaldum at international level. The midfielder scored eight goals in nine appearances for Holland in 2019 and the uncertainty around his future at Anfield means all options remain open.

Wijnaldum has scored 19 goals in 186 appearances for Liverpool since joining the club from Newcastle in 2016 and the Reds are keen to avoid losing players as free agents.
But the midfielder could follow a trend set by Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana, who went into their last seasons at the club knowing that they would be departing at the end of the campaign.
Jurgen Klopp’s side continue to be heavily linked with Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara but no deal has been agreed with the Bundesliga side.
Signing the Spain international could pave the way for departures but a deal is far from certain.
Liverpool take on Arsenal in the Community Shield final on Saturday and Wijnaldum is expected to play a part in the game.
