Japanese midfielder Keisuke Honda was left red-faced after his pronunciation let him down during a press conference on Friday.

The 32-year-old Melbourne Victory star is set to make his A-League return this weekend after spending more than two months on the sidelines due to injury.

The former Japan international was discussing the issue that had kept him away from the pitch with the media when it seemed he had uttered a certain swear word.

‘I have to take care of myself, it’s bad but it’s real, it’s fact,’ Honda said

However, his pronunciation of the word ‘fact’ caused those in the audience to gasp.

Looking worried, Honda quickly cleared things up, saying: ‘Fact, sorry. My pronunciation is maybe bad.’

He later took to Twitter to respond to a video of the moment, promising to ‘study English harder’.

Honda joined Victory from Mexican side Pachuca in the summer and has scored five goal in eight appearances.

The midfielder is widely regarded as one of Japan’s greatest ever players and has had spells with the likes of AC Milan and CSKA Moscow.
