Jurgen Klopp has ruled out making a move for Lionel Messi this summer because of Barcelona‘s huge £629m (€700m) release clause.
The first question the Liverpool boss was asked in his Community Shield press conference was about the Barca captain and whether he had any interest in signing him.
The Argentine told the Catalans that he wants to leave this summer which has alerted several of Europe’s biggest clubs.
While Klopp admitted he would love to have the forward in his team, the Reds are in no financial position to pay the required fee.
‘Interest? Yeah, who doesn’t want Messi in their team?!’ Klopp joked.
‘But no chance. The numbers are absolutely not for us. But….good player!
